Last night, when I toddled off to bed after realising that I was so tired I couldn’t understand what people were saying on the tv, I honestly thought that any idea of a hung parliament was next to nil. After all (I considered as I brushed my teeth), the press had been going on about it for so long, and so much had happened in the past few weeks, surely someone would win? I suspected Cameron, even if I didn’t like him, would win albeit with a small majority.
However, I would not be the fine specimen of a human being that I am if I didn’t say ‘oops’ now and again. I’ve always enjoyed the sport of watching men fight with their minds! , but the entire situation intrigues me. I’m part of the generation that thinks of Life on Mars before the 3 day week , and so I am watching 24 hour news footage of bugger all happening, as I am genuinely intrigued as to what happens next. However, my mind now hurts like a horrible study session, because of the constant repetition of what is happening on fivelive.
For the first time I can remember in British politics, something entirely unexpected could happen.
I can’t quite be bothered to explain what a hung parliament is, partly as the BBC explains it so much better and uses fancier graphs. However, I hope Cameron doesn’t get in, a coalition is formed, no-one brings in random power cuts, and everyone stops talking about unemployment for a couple of hours or so. That would make a nice change.
